EAST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A University of Connecticut student died in a crash in East Hartford on Friday night.

Police said the crash happened on Route 2 eastbound in East Hartford after 10 p.m.

Brandon Gothberg, 20, was driving a Jeep Liberty and traveled into the center median and lost control of the vehicle.

The car traveled across the highway and off the right side of the road, into an overhead traffic sign support.

Gothberg suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the crash scene.

University officials said Gothberg was entering his junior year. He was about to transfer to the Storrs campus for the coming year from the Hartford campus.

The university said it is “working on outreach to help those who knew Brandon at UConn, and extend our most sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
