ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) -

WFSB once again will partner with the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation for their 10th anniversary walk across southeastern Connecticut.

Since being founded in 2006, TBBCF, which it is also known as, is local non-profit dedicated to providing critical funding to breast cancer research. The organization has funded more than $3 million in breast cancer research.

According to a press release from TBBCF, “100% of the gross fundraising dollars goes directly to breast cancer research that is in the scientific pursuit of medicines and techniques that mitigate cancer treatment and promote disease eradication. Administrative costs are sponsor supported or volunteer provided.”

TBBCF, in partnership with Lawrence and Memorial Cancer Center, is sponsoring a research symposium on Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in celebration of this year's walk. The symposium will take place at the Lawrence and Memorial Cancer Center in Waterford.

The purpose of the symposium is to give “the thousands of walkers, who have been a part of our walks, and the thousands of donors, who support these walkers, an opportunity to learn firsthand about some of the research that their fundraising efforts have made possible.”

This year’s 10th anniversary walk has options to suit everyone’s abilities. They include a full marathon (26.2 miles), a half marathon (13.1 miles), and a super quarter marathon (7 miles).

The full marathon distance will kick-off at Saybrook Point in Old Saybrook promptly at 7 a.m.; the half marathon will begin at Capitol Drive in East Lyme at 10 a.m.; and the super quarter marathon will begin at the Niantic Baptist Church at 1 p.m.

Teams and individuals are encouraged to sign up to walk in honor or memory of someone special.

WFSB Morning Anchor and Chief Investigative Reporter for the I-Team, Eric Parker, will emcee the closing ceremonies that will take place at the end of all walks around 3:30 p.m. at the Eugene O’Niell Theatre Center in Waterford.
