HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Monday's high temperatures brought the second official heat wave of the year.

An air quality alert was issued from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. for Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties.

Meteorologist Mark Dixon said temperatures passed 90 degrees in some parts of the state on Monday, marking the year's second heat wave.

"While it was certainly hot, no records were set… but it was close for some," Dixon said.

He said In Bridgeport on Monday it was 90 degrees, just two degrees away from a record set in 1959.

In Windsor Locks, the record of 96 was set in 1913, and the thermometer reached just 93 on Monday afternoon.

Monday night is expected to be warm and muggy.

With the increased humidity, there is a chance for patchy fog by Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, temperatures could reach 90 or higher again.

"Tomorrow, highs will near or just top 90 again with a slight chance for isolated storms," Dixon said.

There will also be higher humidity on Tuesday.

The 90-degree weather could continue on Wednesday, but it looks like it could be a close call.

There is another chance for pop-up showers on Thursday.
