A fire reported in a two and a half story home in Hartford’s south end was ignited by a lightning strike.
Fire officials said they responded to West Preston Street around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday.
When firefighters arrived, they said they found the fire on the third floor. It spread quickly, causing firefighters to take a defensive approach.
They said three families, including six adults and one child, were forced out of the building by the flames.
The American Red Cross and Hartford Fire Department Special Services Unit were said to be helping them with a place to stay.
The fire marshal’s office said the cause was a lightning strike from the night’s storms.
