Ansonia police warn residents after rash of burglaries, attempted break-ins

Posted: Updated:

Ansonia police are warning residents to lock their doors and windows after a series of burglaries and attempted break-ins.

The most recent happened over the weekend.

A resident who lives on Hawley Drive said she noticed a shadowy subject on her back deck around 1 p.m. Saturday morning.

"I felt him looking at me and when I turned, the figure ducked out of the way, stuff fell on my deck,” the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

Ansonia police believe the suspect is the same person behind a number of recent burglaries and attempted break-ins in the Hilltop neighborhood.

"A couple of the houses that were entered, the windows were smaller and one was even a crank out window, so it leads us to believe the person is relatively slender in order to get themselves through these windows,” said Ansonia Police Lt. Andrew Cota.

Police said last week they had two burglaries and two attempted break-ins. Three of them happened on Reservoir Drive and one happened on Pin Oak Lane.

“A car missing items on Highland Ave about a week and a half ago and a house on the other end of the road, that they believe entry was gained through a bathroom window, so we're looking at about sic or seven in total that we believe are related,” Cota said.

He added that there are officers in the neighborhood during the overnight hours, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious and alerting residents to lock their doors and windows.

Anyone with information should contact Ansonia police.
