A former Republican state representative from Newtown has passed away.
State officials said Julie Wasserman died at the age of 91.
Her biography on the state's website said she served the 106th District in 1990 and was most recently re-elected in 2000.
The bio said she was the only minority party member to chair a standing legislative committee in her last term.
Wasserman is also a U.S. Army veteran where she held the rank of captain.
“Julia Wasserman was an original – an original thinker, and original doer, rejecting stereotypes and partisan straightjackets and seeking effective solutions with energy and insight," said Sen. Richard Blumenthal in a statement. "She was tireless in her dedication to public service, with a uniquely warm, embracing presence. She led an extraordinary life of caring, friendship, and service to the community, state and country she loved.”
Officials did not release how she died.
