Police said the body of a woman was found on Granby Street in Bloomfield on Tuesday and is tentatively being identified as the missing woman from Hartford.
Hartford police confirmed the discovery since it happened right near the city's border with Bloomfield at 52 Granby St. However, they said Bloomfield police took the lead on the case.
The woman's body was found behind a poultry business in a wooded area.
The scene was not far from Keney Park in Hartford, where friends and family had been searching for Tashauna Jackson. Jackson was reported missing last week.
Police said preliminary results of the investigation indicate a possible connection to the search for a missing person in the area. They said they are working with a neighboring department for the possible link.
The body was in the process of decomposing.
"Right now I have so many mixed emotions. I can't truly know right now. All I want is for my daughter to come home....safe, sound and breathing," said Jackson's mother Tasha Fitch.
As the search for Jackson was ending, family members reportedly got a tip that a strange smell had been coming from the woods behind the business and when they looked they found a woman's body covered in brush.
"I feel so sorry for the people who found the body back here today. They are visibly shaken, we have had medical help here," said Hartford Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley.
State's attorney's office inspectors and state police were also called to assist with the investigation and gather evidence.
No other information was released.
Anyone with information was asked to call the Bloomfield Police Department at 860-242-5151.
