While this week’s heat wave may not last another day, the humidity is expected to stick around.
Conveniently, it’s National Soft Ice Cream Day, according to NationalDayCalendar.com.
The site said soft serve ice cream is the result of air being introduced during the treat’s freezing process.
The dessert has been around since the 1930s.
NationalDayCalendar cites Tom Carvel and a flat tire as leading to the discovery. Carvel was in Hartsdale, NY when he pulled into a parking lot to quickly sell his softened ice cream to vacationers driving by.
People loved it and along with Carvel ice cream shops, soft serve ice cream was born.
