The second day after a major upgrade to computers at the Department of Motor Vehicles, issues are abundant.

Hundreds of records seem to be missing and many people are asking how this happened.

Nobody wants to spend hours standing in line but that is exactly what hundreds had to do as DMV locations are still working through navigating the new system.

However, for several hundred, once they get through the line they were told their records weren’t there.

“I'm not going to stand at the DMV for six hours. I have a life, a job, I have kids,” said Anita Lamonde, who had her information lost.

All she wanted to do was register her car for the first time and on the first day of the new upgrade, things didn’t go well.

“After six hours of attempting to register my car, they told me they weren't able to pull up my title because it's still in the old system,” Lamonde said.

DMV Commissioner Andres Ayala Jr. said she isn’t alone.

“We've had about 900 or so instances where the records have not transferred over,” Ayala said.

The commissioner said the records aren’t lost, they are in the old system and need to be transferred over manually.

“It sounds like a small number compared to all the records they have data on, but I don't think it's an excuse, especially when I'm one of the 900 without a car in the middle of summer,” Lamonde said.

A special team is dedicated to retrieving those records.

“We get the frustration. We get it. We're doing everything we possibly can to address those issues,” Ayala said.

A tip to avoid the nightmare is to go online and see if your records exist.

If they are not there, go to the information desk at the DMV to let them know and they will start the manual retrieving process.

The fix can be done in one day, it will just take extra time.
