BERLIN, CT (WFSB) -

The boyfriend behind the wheel of a crash that killed his girlfriend in Berlin last December has been charged, according to police.

Anthony Longo, 23, was allegedly drunk driving and under the influence of drugs when his vehicle crashed on Route 9.

The crash killed 19-year-old Isabella Gozzo of Cheshire.

Longo was charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, DUI and failure to drive in a lane.

Investigators said his blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit of .08.

Police said on Dec. 13 around 2:15 a.m., Longo was driving southbound when he lost control of his vehicle near exit 21.

The vehicle went airborne after hitting a light pole and a rocky ledge.

Gozzo was ejected, according to police.

She was taken to the hospital and pronounce dead.

Police said Longo suffered minor injuries.

He was released on a $50,000 bond and scheduled to face a judge on Sept. 17 in New Britain.

Emotions ran high after the crash. Friends and family remembered Gozzo at a vigil held at Cheshire High School.
