WILLIMANTIC, CT (WFSB) -

Police have arrested Joshua Omar Sauri, of Willimantic and charged him with first-degree robbery in connection to a standoff Sunday night into Monday morning.

Sauri was believed to be responsible for armed robbery at the corner of Gem Drive and Roanoak Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, and cops found him hiding between 2 buildings on Cameo Drive early Wednesday morning.

Sauri was held on $250,000 and is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court Wednesday morning.

After the robbery, police said they received information that Sauri went into a home at 45 Gem Dr. after being chased by the women.

Police said they arrived 90 seconds after they received a 911 call. Neighbors were told to shelter in place and the road was closed while police set up a perimeter.

After homes were evacuated, police made contact with Sauri, who said he was not in the home.

However, around 5:30 a.m., police entered the home and were not able to locate Sauri.

On Tuesday, police released a photo of Sauri in hopes of leading to an arrest.  Police said Sauri “was in fact armed with a handgun, so caution should be used when dealing with the suspect.”

Anyone with any information about the case is asked to call the Willimantic Police Department at 860-465-3135.   All calls will be kept anonymous
