A professor from Central Connecticut State University was set to face a judge on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s court date comes after 40-year-old Ravi Shankar "no-showed" a previous court appearance.
Police said English Professor Shankar stole $1,000 worth of merchandise from Home Depot in Middletown.
Shankar is now in a treatment program.
CCSU has since placed him on administrative suspension without pay while the current charges are investigated.
Shankar is no stranger to investigations.
In the past, he was accused of driving under the influence. He was also accused of fleeing a crash scene.
He also made headlines last year for receiving a promotion while he was behind bars.
Shankar, who now lives in Rhode Island, also admitted to lying to police about charges on his credit card statement. He used CCSU computers to buy $22,000 tickets to a soccer game. He originally said it was fraud but later told police he wanted to sell the tickets to pay off his $70,000 credit card debt.
