Homeowner treated after house fire in Ledyard

A homeowner was evaluated for smoke inhalation after a house fire in Ledyard early Sunday morning,

The house fire was reported at 9 Pennywise Ln. just after 3 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke “blowing out of the bedroom window” of the ranch-style home.

Because of smoke detectors, fire officials said the unidentified homeowner was able to get out of the house without being seriously injured.  Ledyard Ambulance staff treated the homeowner.

Firefighters said most of the damage was contained to the bedroom.

Gales Ferry Fire Company, the Old Mystic Fire Department's FAST team, Mashantucket Fire Department assisted with fighting the fire.  

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
