The food truck craze has finally made its way to one college in Connecticut.
Students at the University of Connecticut campus are now starting school with two new delicious options. As students hit the books, they'll also be hitting up the dining hall. But, this semester, there are two new food trucks on campus with even more options.
Monday was the first day of school at UConn and while students are focused on their classes, the new dining options were a close runner up.
One of the trucks is called Food for Thought serves all kinds of specialty tacos.
"It's pretty nice having a switch up not eating the same food every day,” Najee Hall said. “I'm definitely looking to try it out again."
The other is an ice cream truck, which will be satisfying the sweet tooth of college students at UConn.
For the last two years, UConn's dining services has been conducting research and trying to see if bringing food trucks to campus was a viable idea. This school year, they decided to roll it out.
“This is just something unique, something different that they can eat outside of the normal options they have on campus,” UConn Dining Services Asst. Director Chuck Couture said.
Besides being able to taste different types of foods, the goal was to put less stress on the food courts...
Now students say the only downside is watching their waistlines!
"It's dangerous,” said one group of young women. “Yeah, we're going to have to work on some self-control now, but that's OK."
Both food trucks are open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They'll move around to different locations on campus at night and on weekends.
