The Channel 3 and Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad filled the tanks of those who were running on empty.
This week, it headed to a Shell gas station in Waterbury.
“I think it's nice that you give back to the community,” said Tiffany Beamon of Waterbury.
The squad really took a number of residents by surprise.
“That's awesome!” said Heather Butt of Waterbury. “I love you people! Thank you!”
“I thought it was a game to be honest with you,” said Rhonda Davis of Waterbury. “So when I came over here and saw it was true I said, 'Ok, it's really true!' I was surprised.”
Unbeknownst to the squad, Sunden Reed’s son was already inside paying while it was surprising his mother.
“Excuse me, my son just paid for gas on [pump] two, and they're paying for my gas,” she told the clerk. “Can I have the money back please?”
Reed was able to secure the refund.
“I got the money back and I appreciate y'all for fillin' me up!”
Drivers told the Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad that the extra money they were able to keep meant a lot.
“This is going to help me out a lot, a real lot,” said Cindy Byron of Waterbury. “Times are hard for everybody, so I appreciate it.”
“It's a big saving, a big saving because it hurts my pocket,” Reed said. “I live check to check.”
“It's a beautiful day, and you're helping people out so it makes it even better!” said Rhonda Davis of Waterbury.
“You guys were at the right place at the right time!” Beamon said. “Thank you! We appreciate it.”
