A new outlet center is planned for East Hartford.
On Wednesday, the development of The Outlet Shoppes at Rentschler Field was announced.
Officials said the center will be 350,000 square feet and is slated to open in the summer of 2016.
A press release said the center will be built on the site of the former airstrip.
Rentschler Field is located near Pratt & Whitney and the United Technologies Research Center and is the home of UConn’s football stadium along with Cabela’s.
The center will have covered walkways and landscaped courtyards and will accommodate a 50,000 square foot expansion.
“When completed, the center is projected to generate more than $130 million in annual sales and $1.2 million in property taxes and $8.2 million in sales taxes,” a press release said.
Ground for the project is expected to break in the late fall.
