Norwalk school officials said there will be an early dismissal for some schools on Thursday because of the heat.

On Wednesday afternoon, school officials said “With tomorrow’s temperatures expected to reach the mid 90’s, we are concerned about the impact that the heat may have on students in our schools that have limited air conditioning. “

The following schools will have a two-hour early dismissal: Nathan Hale Middle School, Ponus Ridge Middle School, Roton Middle School, West Rocks Middle School, Cranbury Elementary, Kendall Elementary, Naramake Elementary, Rowayton Elementary, Silvermine Elementary, Tracey Elementary, Wolfpit Elementary.

Officials said all after-school activities will be canceled on Thursday at those schools as well.

Buses will be available for the early dismissal and lunch will be served.

“We understand that unexpected early dismissals can create problems for families. By making this decision today, we hope to give as much advance notice as possible, so that parents and guardians can make any alternate plans needed,” officials said in a letter.
