A jilted teen was arrested for allegedly causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to an apartment in downtown Shelton.

Police said they charged 19-year-old Alexis Castro of Ansonia on Thursday.

They said the arrest stemmed from a vandalism complaint that was made on July 9.

Officers arrived to find that someone had forced entry into an apartment. They said the suspect destroyed electronics, broke a mirror, filled a turtle's tank with baby powder and dragged a mattress out to a creek behind the building.

They estimated the damage to be about $8,000.

Investigators said that Castro had recently broke up with her the man who lived there. She told them that she was at the apartment earlier in the day, but did not vandalize it.

Castro was charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief.

Police said she posted a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to face a judge on Sept. 17.
