GREENWICH, CT (WFSB) -

A plumbing contractor suffered “serious injuries” after police said a “massive tree” fell on him while he was working in Greenwich on Friday afternoon.

A Milford man was getting into his van on Benjamin Street in Old Greenwich section of town around 1:15 p.m. when police said a tree fell on him.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and police said they were able to get him from underneath the tree. The unidentified man was rushed to Stamford Hospital where his condition is unknown.

Several motor vehicles were damaged after the tree fell, police said.

Benjamin Street is closed while city tree department crews prepare to remove the tree.

Police said they are working with members of the Greenwich Tree Department “to determine all the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident.”
