Predicted heat prompts plans for early school dismissals

NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) -

New Britain schools announced there will be early dismissal for all schools on Tuesday and Wednesday, because of the heat predicted for the area.

Officials posted on Facebook that there will be a regular schedule for morning pre-kindergarten, but afternoon pre-kindergarten will not be held.

On Tuesday and Wednesday New Britain High School, Satellite Careers Academy, and HALS Academy will dismiss at noon. The DiLoreto School and middle schools will dismiss at 12:35 p.m. and the elementary schools will dismiss at 1:20 p.m.

High heat is expected for Tuesday and Wednesday and the air will be more humid.

Middletown schools also announced it will dismiss schools early on Tuesday.

The middle schools in Middletown will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. and the elementary schools will dismiss at 1 p.m.

Lunches will be served at school and there will be no afternoon preschool.

The high school is fully air conditioned and will run a normal schedule.

Temperatures are expected to reach at least 90 both days.

Chief Meteorologist Bruce DePrest said he is predicting possible record breaking heat for the early part of this week.

Last week, the Asian Studies Academy dismissed early because of the high temperatures and humidity.

Norwalk Public Schools had announced early dismissal last Thursday for its students because of the heat.
