A motor vehicle stop led to the arrest of a man on weapons charges, according to police.
Police said they arrested Bernard Scott, 18, of New Haven, after police said he tried to flee his vehicle and throw a stolen weapon away.
It happened Monday night around 9 p.m. near Bull Hill Lane in West Haven.
Police said an officer activated his lights and siren to pull over Scott's vehicle because he was traveling erratically.
Both pulled onto Meadowbrook Road where Scott ran from the vehicle.
As the officer gave chase, he said he heard metal hitting the sidewalk ahead in the distance.
Scott was apprehended a short distance away.
Officers scoured the neighborhood near the stop. They said they found a loaded Glock pistol near where Scott had ran. They also said the gun had been stolen from a New Haven residence.
Investigators said they also found packaging materials and drug paraphernalia inside Scott's vehicle.
They said Scott is a convicted felon.
He was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, weapons in a vehicle, theft of a firearm, interfering with police, possession of drug paraphernalia and a number of motor vehicle charges.
Scott was held on bond.
