Hartford Hospital is giving an extra dose of supplies to the island of Dominica, which was devastated by Tropical Storm Erika.
On Friday, a car was filled with first aid kits and other much-needed medical supplies to send to the island nation. Those efforts were organized by Dr. D'Andrea Joseph, who is a trauma surgeon at Hartford Hospital.
For her, the devastation hits close to home. Her family is still on the island and dealing with the effects of this storm.
"You have no idea what that does,” Joseph said. “As of this morning they had 35. Thanks will never be enough."
On Friday, Dominica's prime minister asked for international help. The damage is estimated at more than $226 million.
