Friday marks 14 years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City.
The Channel 3 Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad sought to honor a local fire department at random for a little token of appreciation.
The squad’s first stop was at the Olive Garden in Orange where it teamed up with the franchise.
"It's our way to give back to the community," said Michael Morris, general manager of the Orange Olive Garden.
After packing up a convoy of restaurant employees, Italian cuisine and squad members, everyone headed to the West Haven Fire Department to deliver free lunch.
A number of firefighters gathered in their garage, wondering what was happening.
Surprised by the treat, firefighters called it was an act of kindness that went a long way on a hot day.
Three units were out on a call at the time, but the squad was able to deliver the good news upon their return.
"They're going to be grateful that today, they're getting a free lunch and they don't have to pay for lunch," said Bill Stacy, a West Haven firefighter.
"Every day they do something for us, so it's time for us to give back to them," said Bonnie Kelly, an Orange Olive Garden employee.
