A stolen motor vehicle in West Haven led to a police pursuit that ended in New Haven on Friday morning.
Officers were called to a report of a stolen vehicle from the Shell Gas Station at 444 Sawmill Rd. around 11:10 a.m.
The owner of a Dodge Durango told police that he left his keys in the ignition and the suspect fled in the vehicle onto southbound side of Interstate 95.
Since the Durango owner left his cell phone in the vehicle, police were able to track the vehicle’s movements and it was located in the area of Boston Post Road and Campbell Avenue.
However, the stolen vehicle’s tires were deflated after the suspect drove the Durango through the stop sticks that police had deployed earlier in the morning.
The police pursuit continued into New Haven. The pursuit ended in the area of Bond Street and Columbus Avenue in New Haven around 11:30 a.m.
The suspect, who was identified as 45-year-old New Haven resident Jose Flecha, got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
After a brief foot pursuit, police caught Flecha.
Flecha was charged with larceny, engaging officers in pursuit, interfering with police, and multiple motor vehicle charges. He is being held on an undisclosed bond.
The intersection of Bond Street and Columbus Avenue was closed until around noon for the police investigation.
