Police in Darien have arrested three Florida men they said are suspects in several smash-and-grab car burglaries.
They said Oliver Chance, 24, Kenton Chance, 31, and 18-year-old Jerevonte Bray, all of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, targeted vehicles in parking lots that had valuables visible inside.
Police said some of those valuables were recovered in the West Haven area.
They also said the suspects’ vehicle, a rented white 2015 Ford Explorer, was identified for crimes in other cities and states.
Detectives in Darien, with help from West Haven police, surveilled several West Haven locations.
They said around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, an officer saw the vehicle traveling on Elm Street.
The vehicle was stopped and the three people inside were detained.
Inside, police said they found a significant amount of cash, stolen credit cards, gift cards, jewelry, burglary tools, a stolen license plate and items from burglaries in other states.
Both Chances and Bray were then arrested, police said.
They said Oliver Chance had rented the Explorer from “Fox Rent a Car” at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport.
All three suspects were charged with three counts of third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, two counts of sixth-degree larceny by possession, one count of fourth-degree larceny and three counts of credit card theft.
Police said all three men have extensive criminal histories, are multi-state offenders and are convicted felons.
The investigation continues.
They are being held on $100,000 bonds.
They’re due in court on Monday in Stamford.
