An armed intruder trying to get into a home in New Orleans was scared off by a pit bull.
Before it happened, it was a normal Monday for a woman in the Carrollton area of the city. She said she was sitting on the couch getting some work done when her boyfriend decided to make a quick run to the bank.
Less than five minutes later, however, there was a knock at the door.
"I assumed that my boyfriend had forgotten his key and so I got up almost like annoyed and I just swung the door open and when I did the guy was standing next to my door," the woman said.
Crouched down, just enough to be hidden, she said an armed intruder was waiting to make his way into her home.
"I just opened it and I looked at him and it was almost kind of like a 5 second pause where we just kind of looked at each other and I saw the big silver gun and I just started screaming," she said.
As the armed intruder tried to force his way in, she struggled to keep him out. That's when her dog Mickey sprang into action.
"I have two small dogs and then I have one pit bull who is not very big, he doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body but I guess he scared the guy enough for him to take a step back,” she explained.
As she slammed the door shut, she heard a pop.
"It wasn't until I was on the phone with 911 that I realized that he was bleeding," the woman said.
She said Mickey had been shot in the shoulder, but to her surprise he remained at her side until the police came.
After a trip to the vet, she said he's stitched up and ready to play.
