ELLINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

Friends and family will remember the life of an Ellington teen who died in a tubing accident last weekend.

The celebration of Jordyn Engler’s life will be held at Ellington High School on Sunday evening, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Ellington High School is located at 37 Maple St.

Engler, 14, and her father Jeff Engler were tubing in the Esopus Creek when their tube overturned.

This happened during one of the four times each year when the state releases more water into the creek.

Authorities said the teen became trapped under debris in the river.

It wasn’t until state engineers cut back to water flow that crews were able to find Jordyn Engler’s body, which was pulled from the water several hours later.

Esopus Creek is a part of the New York City watershed.

Jordyn was an active member of the Fierce All-Star Cheer Team in Manchester.

A memorial fundraising page has been set up and can be found here.
