EAST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Two people continue to recover after being struck by a car Sunday night in East Hartford.

Police said it happened around 8 p.m. along Main Street near Burnside Avenue.

While the victims were badly hurt, police said their injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators have been on the scene trying to reconstruct the crash and piece together what happened.

They said the man and woman were walking along the road near the Super Saver Laundromat when they were hit.

An eyewitness said both of them were in the road after it happened.

"I heard a loud crash," said Christopher Romeo, an eyewitness. "It sounded like two cars colliding it was so loud. I had no idea that they actually hit a person, two people. Laying on the ground, it didn't look too good. They were both unconscious, not moving."

Police said the driver did stop. As of Monday morning, they said no charges were expected.
