HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

An off-duty officer helped capture a suspect who was scaling a fence at the under-construction baseball park in Hartford.

Police said 28-year-old Courtney Newman of Manchester was found in the area.

The Dunkin' Donuts Park, which will be the home of the Hartford Yard Goats baseball franchise, has been the site of burglaries. Thieves have broken into construction trailers.

The officer, who said he was on his way to work, noticed Newman climbing the park's northeast fence. Patrol units were sent to investigate and detained him.

During their investigation, they said they found a bag of .22 caliber ammunition in his sock and a full face three-hole ski mask.

Newman was described as a convicted felon with a previous felony weapon conviction.

He was charged with criminal possession of firearm and second-degree criminal trespass.
