Connecticut State Police are searching for two men who they said are responsible after a pregnant woman was assaulted outside of her Colchester home.
Police said they responded to Broadway Street just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday for the report of an assault.
A female victim was taken to Backus Hospital for evaluation of her injuries. She was reportedly assaulted on her front steps, right outside of her apartment.
"I was kind of sick to my stomach, because I worry," said Annette Carey, who knows the victim. "All I can tell you right now is that she is home resting."
The victim, who is in her 20s, is expecting her second child in a few months.
Carey said the area is dark and not well lit.
Police said the two male suspects were reportedly riding bicycles. Investigators canvassed the crime scene searching for clues.
"I saw two detectives looking over in this area over here, and I don't know what they were looking for, but they were here this morning," said Bill Loughery of Colchester. "First of any kind of violent thing I've heard of happening in this area at all."
It is unclear if the victim knew her alleged attackers.
State Police detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene and assumed the investigation, officials said.
