On Friday, the Eastern States Exposition, also known as the Big E, kicked off its 99th year.
Unique food, entertainment, animals, rides, shopping and much more are all offered at the 17-day event, held in West Springfield, Mass.
Gates opened at 8 a.m. on Friday, and the fair runs through Sunday, Oct. 4.
The Big E is the largest fair in the northeast, and the fifth largest in North America, featuring dozens of things to do, hearing toward all kinds of interests, like state houses, a Mardi Gras parade, the circus and a variety of different concerts.
Every day has a different theme, and on Wednesday, Sept. 23 has been designated ‘Connecticut Day.’
The food is one of the big draws at the Big E.
Delicacies such as the Craz-E Burger, the Big E cream puff and deep fried Jelly Beans, PBJs, candy bars and red velvet Oreos are still on the menu, but there are some new delights to enjoy, and more can be found here.
A new item on the fair menu is the garbage bowl, which includes fries, onion rings, a hot dog, a burger, bacon and fried onions.
Another is dinner in a cone, with mac and cheese and bacon placed inside an ice cream cone.
"I love The Big E, I love all this weird food," said Justin Wentworth of Windsor Locks.
