A fatal two-car crash has closed part of Route 66 in Columbia.
According to police, two people were killed and two others were injured. The crash involved a car and tractor trailer.
Officials said the road is closed at Hunt Road for the crash, which was reported at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
The driver of the tractor trailer, which belongs to Penski Truck Leasing Co., was 28-year-old Adolfo Lopez of Hartford.
The people in the car were 19-year-old Hannah Schmidt of Hebron, 19-year-old Alana Ferranle of South Windsor and 19-year-old Ryan Meegan of Ridgefield.
Ferranle and Meegan were both killed in the crash. Schmidt, who was the driver of the car, was brought to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries.
According to police, Lopez was driving east on Route 66 when he struck the right side of the car as it entered the intersection of Route 66 and West Road.
Both vehicles came to a stop on the eastbound side of Route 66 when they collided with a utility pole, which snapped at the base.
Lopez was brought to Windham Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
