Officials in Old Saybrook issued a warning on Monday about coyotes in town.
They said instances of pets and coyotes crossing paths have increased significantly over the past few months.
"We strongly recommend that all domestic dogs be kept on a leash and not left unattended," said Lt. Kevin Roche, Old Saybrook Department of Police Services.
Police said they have been working with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection on the matter.
They recommended not feeding coyotes, calling 911 if one is spotted and keeping domestic dogs on a leash and not unattended.
