NEW LONDON, CT (WFSB) -

Police in New London are investigating the burning of a toddler, scalded in a bath tub.

The boy is just 1 year old and was taken to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Boston, Ma., with burns over nearly half of his body.

The baby may have been placed in scalding hot water in a bath tub and received first and second degree burns.

Emergency officials responded to the home on Bristol Street at around 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Neighbors said the baby was wrapped up in a blanket when he was taken t the hospital.

"There was a lot of police and everything. I am hoping they will find out what happened because it’s sad,” said neighbor Peggy Manley.

Police said the baby’s condition improved and has been upgraded from critical to stable.

Investigators said this may have been accidental.
