SOUTHINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

A barricaded person inside of a home on Atwater Street in Southington prompted a heavy police presence.

On Wednesday afternoon, drivers were told to avoid the area, as the road was shut down between Canal Street and the I-84 exit 30 off ramp.

Police said they had initially responded to the home at about 11:45 a.m. for a welfare check.

That person reportedly locked themselves inside of the home.

As of 4:45 p.m., officers at the scene were trying to make contact with the person inside of the home.

In addition to police, there are SWAT members and police dogs helping with the situation.

At 6:15 p.m., police said 46-year-old Stephen Cieszynski was taken by ambulance to a hospital for evaluation.

Police blocked off part of the town's walking trail as well, which runs along Atwater Street.

No injuries were reported during the incident and no charges have been filed at this time.

Officers have cleared the scene and Atwater Street has been reopened.
