PROSPECT, CT (WFSB) -

A state police detective in an unmarked vehicle aided in helping a stabbing victim and tracking down a suspect.

John Satkunas, 21, was arrested and charged in the crime, according to police.

The major crime detective sergeant said he was driving north on Waterbury Road in Prospect Wednesday just before 5 p.m. when a man stepped into the road.

The detective said he stopped his vehicle, after which he learned that the victim had been stabbed multiple times in the area of 14 Waterbury Rd.

Local officers responded and helped transported the victim to the hospital.

They said they then found the suspect outside the address. He did not listen to officers' demands and fled on foot.

He was apprehended after a brief pursuit, police said.

Satkunas was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was scheduled to face a judge on Thursday in Waterbury.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call state police at 203-393-4200.
