State police said they made an arrest in an Old Lyme bank robbery that happened on Wednesday.

Herman "Butchie" Smith, 38, of Groton, was identified as the suspect, found by detectives and taken into custody through an arrest warrant.

Detectives said he robbed the Webster Bank on Halls Road just before noon on Wednesday.

State police were able to give a description of the suspect to the media. He was described as a man with a day or two of facial hair who wore prescription glasses, a white and blue UConn baseball hat, a white baseball-type shirt with blue or gray sleeves, khaki shorts and white sneakers.

He also carried a satchel and ride away on a bicycle.

Troopers said that with some help from the Major Crime Squad and Old Lyme police, they were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Smith.

He was arrested with the help of Mashantucket Pequot Tribal police just after midnight on Friday.

Smith was charged with second-degree robbery and second-degree larceny.

He was also held on a $500,000 bond.
