EAST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

State police made an arrest in a commuter lot assault case that happened earlier this month.

Troopers said they identified a 16-year-old male suspect through DNA evidence.

An unidentified woman told police that she was physically and sexually assaulted during the Sept. 3 incident. The woman said she was having some car trouble around 2:30 a.m. and pulled into the commuter lot near exit 90 off of Route 15 in East Hartford.

The suspect is accused of attacking her, sexually assaulting her and then her car was stolen.

The victim was transported to Manchester Hospital for evaluation of injuries.

The suspect fled in a vehicle and was involved in a one-vehicle crash. The teen was tracked to the Main and McKee Streets area where the trail went cold.

On Sept. 19, East Hartford police said they responded to a home invasion on Gilmore Road during which a similar sex assault took place.

That’s where police said the suspect was identified by way of DNA evidence.

"We are seeing these charges are so outrageous. You're looking at attempted murder, strangulation, kidnapping, the severity of these charges could possibly put this case into adult court," State Police Trooper Kelly Grant said. "And that's something juvenile court would have to make a determination on that, but that's one of the possibilities."

Police also said the suspect was a juvenile, who was already in custody. They are not releasing his name due to his age.

Detectives said they applied for and received an arrest warrant. They said the warrant was served at the Juvenile Detention Facility in Hartford on Thursday.

The suspect faced a judge on Friday.

According to troopers, he was charged with criminal attempt/felony murder, first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree kidnapping, third-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, criminal trover in the second degree, first-degree robbery and robbery of an occupied vehicle.
