Bar fight led to Bridgeport drowning

BRIDGEPORT, CT (WFSB) -

A bar fight led to a drowning in Bridgeport last month, according to police.

Police said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death of Wayne Bentley a homicide.

Bentley, 42, of West Haven, was found in the water of Ash Creek behind Chubby's Bar & Grill on Fairfield Avenue.

Police said they responded to a call about the fight behind the restaurant on Aug. 1 around 1:15 a.m.

They said the two people involved had fallen into the water.

Emergency crews pulled Bentley from the creek.

The other person involved in the fight fled from the scene.

Investigators said no weapons were involved in the incident.
