Firefighters battled a two alarm fire at a multi-family home in Hartford on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was reported at 137 Franklin Ave. around 2:20 p.m. Upon arrival, fire was seen coming from the third floor of the three-story home. People and authorities reported seeing heavy smoke miles away.
Most of the residents were out of the home when firefighters arrived at the fire. There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters.
Hartford Fire Capt. Ted Kolosky said a second alarm assignment was called, "due to the size of the building and volume of smoke and fire, which also posed a threat to adjacent buildings that were in close proximity to the fire."
Part of Franklin Avenue was shut down for the fire investigation. The fire was brought under control just before 3 p.m.
The Special Services Division of Hartford Fire Department is helping the eight families displaced by the fire. In total, eight adults and one child were displaced by fire.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
