New Britain police have identified a suspect in the case of an alleged child abduction that happened in August.
Police said they have obtained an arrest warrant for 27-year-old Alexy Martinez-Mercado, who is accused of taking a juvenile female from her bedroom through a window and inappropriately touching her and then returning her to her room.
On Thursday, an arrest warrant was obtained for Martinez-Mercado, who is already in custody for charges stemming from two separate incident on Sept. 24.
On that date, police charged him with criminal attempt to commit second-degree burglary.
Police said the two incidents charged on Sept. 24 appear to be similar in nature to the Aug. 16 incident.
Martinez-Mercado is now facing first-degree kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault of a minor, home invasion, and risk of injury to a minor by sexual contact.
The warrant has a $1 million court set bond.
The arrest warrants have been sealed and no further information will be released.
New Britain Police Department is continuing to investigate and has been assisted by the Connecticut State Forensic Lab, the Connecticut Department of Adult Probation and the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office.
