BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

Lake Compounce has postponed its opening of the Haunted Graveyard due to the threat of rain Friday night.

Officials announced that the opening of this year’s popular Halloween attraction will open for the season on Saturday, Oct. 3.

WFSB meteorologists said the rain could become more widespread on Friday, and even become heavy at times.

Rain on Saturday should be light for the most part, but it is expected to be an overcast day with wind and highs only in the 50s.

The Haunted Graveyard started in 1991 after Ernie and Carol Romegialli’s daughter Johanna was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes.

The couple decorated their yard for Halloween so their daughter could still celebrate the holiday without candy. It outgrew the yard and was then moved to Lake Compounce.

Every year the Haunted Graveyard adds new scenes, and it has donated more than $1 million to various diabetes organizations.

The Haunted Graveyard runs on weekends until Oct. 31.
