Southington teacher placed on leave after alleged incident with duct tape

SOUTHINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

A Southington teacher is on administrative leave after an alleged incident involving duct tape in a classroom.

Matthew Golchin, a language arts teacher at Southington High School, was put on leave pending an investigation.

According to a police report, Golchin is accused of wrapping tape around the legs of a desk, while a student was sitting in it.

The alleged incident happened last month.

The student was reportedly not doing work in class.

According to the report, Golchin walked away and said “now do your work” to the student.

Golchin is banned from having any contact with students, parents and staff.

Golchin has been a teacher at Southington High School for the past eight years.
