NORWALK, CT (WFSB) -

A "serious crash" closed the southbound side of Route 7 in Norwalk on Tuesday afternoon.

Route 7 Connector, which is also known as US7, is closed between exits 2 and 1 after a multi-car crash around 3:15 p.m. The Department of Transportation is reporting that US7 near New Canaan Avenue will be closed for up to four hours.

The ramp from Route 15 North to Route 7 south, which is Exits 39A, is also closed, according to DOT officials.

Drivers should expect traffic delays and avoid the area, if possible.

Two people were in the Honda Pilot that was found 60-feet from the highway and landed front-end down with the rear wedged against a tree and the edge of the Norwalk River, police said.

The occupants were taken to Norwalk Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Of the other vehicles involved in the crash, one patient suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
