BERLIN, CT (WFSB) -

With flu season right around the corner, now is the time to get a flu shot if you plan on doing so.

Clinics make it easy to get immunized, and they are also a way for volunteers to get prepared for the worst case scenario, from a pandemic to even an active shooter.

The goal of clinics run by the Central Connecticut Health District (CCHD) is to get people in and out as quickly as possible.

In a time-lapsed video, one woman’s visit from start to finish at the Berlin Community Center was just two-and-a-half minutes.

"I was in and out faster than I could blink an eye,” said Lisa Paonessa, a flu clinic participant.

"It is absolutely wonderful. We come every year and every year it's just as quick as the last time,” said Theresa Rapacky, also a flu clinic participant.

At the same time, the clinic is also helping the 400 or so volunteers with CCHD.

The flu clinics are utilized as an opportunity to train workers for any situation, from bioterrorism to a flu pandemic.

"We're learning a lot about how to get people into a clinic fast, get them processed fast, and get them out so that in the event of an emergency,” said Cheryl Kissinger, CCHD office manager. “We have 90,000 people in our district and we have to move people fast."

So now not only can people get prepared for flu season, officials can also get ready to protect others in an emergency.

"I don't think you could get anything better,” said Judy Torpey CCHD emergency preparedness coordinator. “I think we have an advantage over many health districts and departments that don't on a regular basis run a true clinic."

"I think it's an excellent opportunity. I hope the community will all participate,” Kissinger added.

For those who still need a flu shot, there are a number of flu clinics being held across the state.
