An 85-year-old woman was killed in a motor vehicle crash on Route 7 in Norwalk on Tuesday afternoon.
Troopers were called to a three-vehicle crash on the southbound side of Route 7 between exits 1 and 2 around 3:15 p.m.
A 2014 Honda Pilot SUV traveling southbound on Route 7 was struck by 2008 Honda Civic LX, according to police. The Pilot "rolled over several times" and went over a metal beam guardrail until police said it went 75 feet down an embankment. The Pilot "landed front end down with the rear end wedged against a tree at the edge of the Norwalk River," according to the Norwalk Fire Department.
After hitting the Pilot, police said the Civic “spun out of control” and hit a 2008 Ford ECO. The Civic finally stopped in the grass median in the center of the road while police said the ECO ended in the left lane.
A passenger in the Pilot, Darien resident Selma Spector died at the scene of the crash, police said. The driver of the Pilot was rushed to Norwalk Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Civic was rushed to Norwalk Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries while the people inside the ECO reported no injuries to police.
An off-duty dispatcher along with Norwalk police officers assisted crews with the patients. Eversource crews help to secure the Pilot after it crashed into a tree.
No charges have been filed by police. The crash remains under investigation.
