Seventeen new members of the New York Police Department were loud and jumpy as they graduated from the police academy on Tuesday.

Each new member of the NYPD Transit Bureau K9 Unit marched and barked their way up to Police Commissioner William Bratton to be recognized on Tuesday.

The dogs are trained in patrol and explosives and many of them will be used in counterterrorism work.

Twelve of the graduating canines are named for officers who died in the line of duty.
