High school students received an up close look at a black hawk helicopter in Chester.
Students involved with the 2015 Sikorsky Science, Technology, Engineering and Math challenge, or STEM, experienced a surprise landing on Friday at the Chester Airport.
Along with the inside look at the aircraft, 100 students from eight high schools in Fairfield and New Haven counties competed in team building exercises with the Sikorsky engineers who will be mentoring them this academic year.
This year's challenge requires students to use models to design a hoist apparatus to recover a downed Corsair aircraft in a scenario where it's at risk of drifting out to sea or sinking, Sikorsky officials said.
