A celebration about heritage turned into a celebration of engagement in East Haven.

Branford volunteer firefighter Matt Hyatt pulled aside his girlfriend, Caitlin Rember, and proposed right in the middle of the town's Columbus Day Parade on Sunday.

The whole thing was caught on camera and posted to the WFSB Facebook page by Rember.

In the video, Hyatt grabbed Rember's hands, got down on one knee and popped the question.

East Haven Mayor Joe Maturo was there and gave the happy couple his blessing.

She of course said "yes."

Hyatt is a volunteer firefighter on Engine 4 with Short Beach Branford.

Congratulations to all!
