HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

It was a heartless crime where two disabled women were immobilized after thieves stole both of their wheelchairs from their front porch.

After the exclusive story aired on Eyewitness News Monday night, the two women are getting some heartfelt help, after a kind viewer donated her own wheelchair.

On Tuesday, Lois Sidi offered her motorized wheelchair to the women, for free.

“If somebody needs it more than I do, that doesn't have the mobility that I do have, it's my blessing to give it to someone that needs it more than I do,” Sidi said.

The wheelchair Sidi donated wasn’t an extra one that she had, and she took a taxi from her East Hartford home to deliver the gift of mobility.

Rene Lewis spent a few minutes getting familiar with her new wheels on Tuesday.

Touched by the kindness of a stranger, she once again has a way to get around and has her freedom back.

“I thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart,” Lewis said to Sidi, who replied with “Don't cry, there's only happiness now.”

Police were able to recover one of the stolen wheelchairs, abandoned on Vine Street. Police are still trying to track down the thieves.
